PRODUCT OVERVIEW

What is IBM Rhapsody Systems Engineering?

IBM Rhapsody SE is a cloud-native, web-based MBSE platform enabling engineering teams to design, analyze, and govern complex system architectures using SysML v2.

Part of the IBM Engineering Lifecycle Management (ELM) suite, Rhapsody SE is the new generation of IBM's MBSE tooling moving from desktop-native SysML v1 (Rhapsody 10) to a fully web-native, collaborative SysML v2 environment. IBM Rhapsody SE connects systems architects, hardware and software engineers, testers, and stakeholders across the full development lifecycle, with open APIs, enterprise scalability, and AI-assisted workflows.

Targeted primarily at the Automotive, Aerospace and Defense, Medical, and Electronics industries, Rhapsody SE is designed for organizations facing increasing system complexity and shortening development cycles.

sysml-v2

SysML v2 Native

IBM Rhapsody SE supports the new SysML V2 standard, helping practitioners design complex systems graphically, with dedicated graphic editors, customizable browsers and a configurable set of completeness and correctness checks. It also supports adding elements specified with SysML V2 textual representations, which you can easily transform into a graphic modeling  representation. Furthermore, IBM Rhapsody SE can be customized to support any specific processes and workflows needed.

Cloud-Native & Web-Based

IBM Rhapsody SE can be used with just a web browser, making it easy to access and use for everyone in the team: systems engineering practitioners and reviewers, domain architects, compliance and security officers, design partners and suppliers. The advantage for administrators lies in the modern container-based architecture, which makes installation, configuration, and updating quick and easy.

KEY CAPABILITIES

What can IBM Rhapsody Systems Engineering do?

From precise SysML v2 modeling to AI-guided analysis and enterprise-scale deployment, Rhapsody SE covers the full scope of model-based systems engineering.

Designed for native SysML V2 support

IBM Rhapsody SE supports SysML V2 in both its graphical and textual representations with special graphics editors, customizable browsers, and a configurable set of completeness and correctness checks. To ensure a consistent experience and modeling guidelines within and across projects in an organization, tool and method experts can customize the tool to support the specific processes and workflows needed.

Web-based solution

IBM Rhapsody SE offers comprehensive support for everyone in the team, including systems engineering practitioners and reviewers, domain architects, compliance and security officers, design partners and suppliers. Regardless of which device you prefer, be it Windows, MacOS, Android, or iOS, all you need is a web browser and a URL to access the tool. Administrators benefit from it too, since the product is delivered as containers, easing the speed and simplicity of installation and product configuration.

Harmony Model-Based Engineering

Harmony model-based engineering (HarmonyMBE) is an iteration of the Harmony workflow that simplifies SysML V2 model development and analysis workflows, providing a prescriptive process empowered by automations that reduce the amount of manual work required to create correct and consistent models for complex real-word systems and systems-of-systems.

Part of the IBM Engineering Lifecycle Management solution

IBM Rhapsody SE can be integrated with IBM ELM's open, federated, versioned digital thread for engineering artifacts, including its support for Global Configurations. It integrates through open services for lifecycle collaboration (OSLC) or other APIs with other downstream engineering domains, such as software design with production code generation, allowing customers to manage cross domain digital threads.

BENEFITS

Why teams choose IBM Rhapsody SE

Rhapsody SE shifts the record of authority from scattered documents to a governed, connected system model with measurable impact on quality, speed, and team alignment.

Cross-domain digital thread across the development lifecycle

IBM Rhapsody SE is designed to mitigate the negative impacts of data silos in engineering teams. Its linked data architecture is based on the open standard Open Services for Lifecycle Collaboration (OSLC) and enables teams to manage all relations to requirements, quality tests, workflow management seamless across domains and in the context of versioned data. Connect your Global Configuration to ensure consistent baselines and development streams across all engineering disciplines.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about IBM Rhapsody Systems Engineering and how SodiusWillert helps teams purchase, deploy, and get the most out of it.

What is the difference between IBM Rhapsody Systems Engineering (Rhapsody SE) and IBM Engineering Rhapsody (Rhapsody 10)?

IBM Engineering Rhapsody (Rhapsody 10) is the second-generation MBSE tool based on SysML v1, delivered as a desktop-native application with web access.

IBM Rhapsody Systems Engineering (Rhapsody SE) is the third-generation tool, built from the ground up on SysML v2, fully web-native and cloud-native. Rhapsody SE is not an upgrade of Rhapsody 10, it is a new platform designed for distributed teams, open APIs, and modern enterprise deployment. Both products are part of the IBM ELM suite, and SodiusWillert supports licensing and deployment for both.

What license types are available for IBM Rhapsody Systems Engineering?

IBM Rhapsody Systems Engineering is available through IBM's standard ELM licensing model, which typically includes token-based (floating) licenses and authorized user licenses. License structures can be configured to match your team size, deployment environment, and usage patterns including cloud, on-premises, and hybrid deployments. As an IBM Platinum Partner and authorized VAR, SodiusWillert can advise on the most appropriate license configuration and provide competitive pricing. Contact us for a tailored quote.
