Defense organization’s today are looking to leverage the latest innovations and technology when describing large scale system of systems. In the past, departments used a variety of different tools using their own proprietary languages. This made it difficult to share information and allow others unfamiliar with common notations to properly understand system descriptions. On top of that, because defense projects often are in development for a long period, it’s not uncommon for tools used to be made obsolete or not supported by software vendors. The Unified Profile for DoDAF and MODAF (UPDM) aims at solving these issues by using a common language to describe defense architectures. This session provides an overview of how UPDM can be used to support developing defense applications, and how organizations can take advantage of the very latest technology and services from IBM business partner Sodius, to transition their legacy data into new generation tools from IBM.
Sodius an IBM business partner of many years has developed a software and services package that translates the DoDAF architecture in the proprietary tool formats to a DoDAF Architecture based upon the increasingly popular, UPDM.
This presentation will discuss how the technology works, providing examples of the mapping between the tools and why services are required. Explain the benefits of moving to a UML/SysML tool and the advantages this approach has because of the tight integrations with IBM’s Continuous Engineering offerings. IBM Continuous Engineering has ability to improve the quality of the architectures being developed as it enables the user to manage and integrate requirements into architectures easily, manage change and configurations and the ability to do complex life-cycle analysis across the architectures. The presentation will end with a demonstration that shows the passing of a DoDAF architecture from one tool to the other.
